“Life could return to normal next winter,” said the creator of the Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus Ugur Shahin.
Professor Shahin, one of the founders and CEO of the company BioNTech, which also participated in the development of the vaccine, said that the vaccine could halve the transmission of the virus, which would result in a “dramatic reduction” in the number of reported cases.
Last week, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that the effectiveness of their corona vaccine is just over 90 percent, based on 43,500 volunteers who participated in the tests.
The effectiveness of the vaccine is significantly higher than scientists expected, which is why the executive director of Pfizer, Albert Burla, called this discovery “great for humanity and science”.
There are still challenges before the vaccine reaches the population, but it is assumed that the vaccine should be in use before the end of the year.
“This winter will be difficult. Therefore, we will not notice much benefit from the vaccine this winter. If everything goes according to plan, we will start delivering the vaccine by the end of the year and early 2021. Our goal is to deliver more than 300 million doses by April and then the effect will already begin to be felt, “Shahin said.
He added that it was “absolutely necessary” to finish immunizing humanity before next fall.
“I am sure that it will happen, because numerous pharmaceutical companies help us, when the time comes, to make the delivery, so that we would have a normal next winter,” concluded Shahin.
